The Origins of Comicgeek #0
More often than not my favorite comics are the Origin issues, you know
the ones I’m talking about. These are the issues, which give you the characters background story. Well, this is my origin issue : The Origins of Comicgeek Issue #0.
Enjoy.
She was born on the day before Halloween 1959, in Hartford, Connecticut to Barbara & Benjamin Wassell. She was to be their only child. Life was pretty normal for this curly red hair baby girl, until that day in February 1963 when her father passed away. She was all of three years old. Shortly there after, she moved with her mother, to another part of the city. This move brought them closer to her mother’s parents who would baby sit, while their daughter worked as a meat wrapper at a local supermarket.
As this little girl grew, she developed a love of reading (instilled in her by her late father). On the way home from church on Sunday’s, they would stop at the local drugstore and get the Sunday paper. It was then at the age of five, that she started buying (well actually, her mother started buying) comic books. Back then, she was totally into the ARCHIE series, her favorite character was JUGHEAD. When she wasn’t reading comics (and as she got older), she was reading NANCY DREW MYSTERIES and she also, during those times, discovered comic book superheroes. Her favorites being BATMAN and WONDER WOMAN, although she also read SUPERMAN, JLA and the likes. Her love of comics is still with her today in her 40-something years.
FLASH FORWARD TO PRESENT DAY – MARCH 2005
Today this little red haired girl is all grown and living in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, with her life partner, Paula (it’s legal for gays to marry in the state of Massachusetts) and their three fur feline children, Shug, Smudge and Avalon. Currently she is not working, she was fired from her job in November of 2004, because she was undergoing/had just finished Cancer treatment. She is happy to say that she is currently Cancer free.
Before being fired, she worked in Public Access Television, as a channel coordinator/promotions coordinator. This was a job she enjoyed very much, she has been doing it since the 1980’s, when she lived in Connecticut. She hopes to get back into it one day (hopefully sooner, rather than later).
She is still very much into comics, music and the likes, as you will come to find out with this blog SELECTED TOMATOES. She says it best when she states (with a smile), “ I’m a pop culture junkie. “ She usually writes her blog entries for SELECTED TOMATOES, in the late evening / early morning hours when the apartment is quite (give or take a snoring cat).
She looks forward to hearing from / communicating with other pop culture junkies via SELECTED TOMATOES.
